How Many Birders Are There, Really? (Updated)

The most recent report was issued in December 2019 and it used data from the 2016 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation. Birding reported a paid distribution of approximately 9,300 on its Form 3526 in October 2019. There are (as of 2020) approximately 550,000 world-wide users of eBird.
