Corey did me one better with the narcissistic Nashville Warbler pictured above admiring itself at Tanner’s Spring in Central Park – but then he one-upped himself when on a whale-watching trip with his family off the coast he spotted a Cory’s Shearwater feeding just west of Rockaway Inlet which put it just inside the Queens-Nassau (..)

Dawn breaks over Kaikoura (where Duncan saw Sperm Whales !). If April showers bring May flowers, what does April sleet bring? Guess I’ll be finding out!

And we in Wellington had a bit of a shock when a swarm of quakes struck our region in 2013. Thanks to it’s marine canyon it’s the place to see Sperm Whales, swim with Dusky Dolphins and New Zealand Fur-seals, and watch albatrosses, shearwaters and petrels. Sperm Whales are a huge draw, literally!

The bill of the Greater Flamingo is a marvel of nature that would make any baleen whale turn pale with envy. Indeed, they are the avian equivalent to baleen whales, feeding exclusively on brine shrimp and blue-green algae using their highly specialized bills as filter devices. So I guess I’ll believe it.
