Red-tailed Black-Cockatoos return to Broome

They have very powerful beaks and claws and it is not uncommon to see where they have been by the leaf litter below the large trees. There are occasions when we do have rain during our dry season and this happened in June 2013. Red-tailed Black-Cockatoos are a lot bigger than the Gang-gang Cockatoos that we encountered in Victoria.

Cockpit Country is littered with small roads that weave through agricultural areas as well as the main highway — the GPS pointed me in the direction of a newly paved road that became narrower and more pothole ridden as one continued along its length. A Jamaican Owl peers down at me from a tree at Marshall’s Pen.

Birding beyond Brisbane

I expect he has done some travelling in the period from May 2012 to February 2013! The hinterland produced some amazing birds and we did find it hard work looking so high into the trees to find the Catbird that continuously called and the Wompoo Fruit Dove, but the leaf litter below also produced some well-disguised birds.
