Shearwaters from Shore

According to eBird, there have been approximately 270 species seen at the hotspot that includes the harbor. The evening of September 7, 2012 was a truly memorable birding experience. Off the coast of northern California, Sooty Shearwater are common and are seen on virtually all pelagic birding trips.

It was apparently all the way back in 2012, when I was first getting back into birding after a 30 year hiatus, that I took a sad little picture, with my sad little camera, of a cute little bird that seemed to not show up anywhere at all in my field guide.
