Are You Going to the 2015 Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival?

That will be the opening day of the 18th Annual Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival in Titusville, Florida. The most likely bird would be Fulvous Whistling-Duck which I tried for and dipped on last year thanks to the refuge that was good for them being closed for hunting on the day that I made the attempt. But it will in January!

Twitching

Oddly enough, the Common Redpoll ( Acanthis flammea ), my first ever twitch back in the winter of 2009, was spotted within a mile or so from the Snow Bunting on the same road in McArthur. For the past several years I have been taking advantage of our many National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) here in Northern California.

An Osprey Nest and The Migratory Bird Treaty Act

This is a poor photo I took of this pair’s nest back in 2009. We have been assured by the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) that they are watching this nest also. The new nest is still but a ghost of what the old nest looked like.

Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge, 15 March 2009 It was at about 1:30 AM on Saturday morning that I startled awake and found myself sitting in an empty subway car in an unfamiliar location. Tree Swallows squabbled and hunted in the air overhead and spent time examining the numerous nest boxes erected for them.
