Not only that, but shortly after I moved to New York City in 2008 the Parks Department ripped out a whole bunch of invasive species, worked hard to prevent them from coming back, and planted a bunch of native species. Even while growing in a brand new tail feather this Eastern Kingbird had no problem catching bugs.

Interestingly, the field guide I’m looking at today, the larger field guide covering all of North America, was not published until 2008, the year Peterson would have been 100 years old. Peterson Field Guide to Birds of North America, Second Edition is an updated and expanded edition of a field guide first published in 2008.

I also enjoyed reading the company histories of familiar brands like Duncraft, Kaytee, Droll Yankee, and Wagner all of which started as family companies, some as offshoots of other businesses, some as the result of clever inventions. The story of Duncraft is a good example. Scott’s was fined $12.5 The writers have created a good book.

A mozzie bites me, so I take the “Expedition Plus Insect Repellent” from my rucksack (when I think about it now, any local brand would probably be equally efficient, but they lack the word “expedition” which immediately turns you into a proper explorer) and start spraying my hands and neck.
