Similar in size to West Virginia, thanks to a bunch of different major habitats, rain, and tropical biodiversity, it’s pretty easy to top 300 in a week or two, and even identify 500 over the course of three weeks. That said, not even 300 of those were identified in an area around the same size as Costa Rica.

Lots of great birds in this pine-spruce bog habitat: Purple Finches , Least Flycatchers , many wood-warblers, but no sign of my jinx bird (other life bird possibilities for me here included Great Gray Owl , Spruce Grouse , Northern Three-toed Woodpecker and American Black-backed Woodpecker ).
