My train of thought is: animals can communicate ? I was out to dinner with my husband and the question just popped into my head- every human civilization has independently developed religions and I was just wondering everything we don’t know about the animal world as we can’t communicate with them.

Whales are cows. The point is, of course, that whales are not cows. Whales emerge from within the larger group of mammals that includes cattle, deer, pigs, camels, with camels being the most deeply rooted. (So You should have said whales. Even though whales are cows. Meanwhile I have a few random thoughts.

The use of sonar is controversial because of its harmful effects on marine life such as whales. If approved, those measures would be in effect from 2010 to 2015 for the Navy's training area in the Pacific Ocean off the Washington, Oregon and Northern California coasts. In what has to be considered pure escapism (from the presidential campaign, if nothing else), every news organization is leading with the story of three young whales off the north coast of Alaska (near Barrow). The whales were frozen in by ice floes on their southward migration from the arctic. I’m surprised nobody has named them yet.

According to this AP Newswire issued yesterday: "President Bush exempted the Navy from an environmental law so it can continue using sonar in its anti-submarine warfare training off the California coast — a practice critics say is harmful to whales and other marine mammals. Navy to do so?
