They were barely mentioned in The Voyage of the Beagle and not at all in On the Origin of Species. It’s now known that Charles Darwin did not (contrary to what was once a settled idea) assign great importance to the Galapagos birds that came to be called “Darwin’s finches” (though they’re not true finches at all). Fine and dandy.

It is not particularly big but has a reported 430 bird species including migrants, though during my short stay it seems I missed most of the key attractions among them. The Crowned Hornbill is among those hornbills in which during incubation the female seals herself into a tree cavity using her own droppings. UysI and G.

Dead Sea Lions in Puget Sound - Again

The bodies of seven sea lions with bullet wounds were recently found on the Nisqually River. The animal protection group Seal Sitters says a necropsy showed that the sea lion had suffered a shark bite and had twisted intestines in addition to a bullet wound. Investigators say they do not know who is responsible.
