The Gap Between Wildlife and the Animal Rights Movement

The animal rights movement is (rightly) closely associated with protesting things like factory farming, dogfighting, etc…basically, the mistreatment of animals. People interested in animal welfare who are against this idea are completely missing the point here. This makes perfect sense. The logic of this is ridiculous.

Foie Gras Disappearing From San Diego Restaurants

Here in Seattle, NARN (Northwest Animal Rights Network) has been staging protests at a local restaurant that serves foie gras. Having said that though, I see that these types of protests have had an effect in the San Diego area. They've caught a lot of grief over it. I can't say I've always felt it was the best use of time.

Good News for the Alamagordo Chimps!

Animal welfare activists protested the transfer. A federal contract covering the chimps expires next year. The NIH proposed sending them to Texas to be used in research aimed at finding a hepatitis C vaccine. The chimps have been free from testing at the Alamogordo Primate Facility at Holloman Air Force Base since 2001.

I think it's just another example of short-term vs. long-term thinking, to which all humans are victim.
