I'm not posting this because of the rescue (which is a good thing), but because of HOW this turtle was blinded. The aquarium said it hoped Homer would help raise awareness about the plight of his species. Dangers include fishermen deliberately blinding the animals to protect fishing equipment. From the BBC.

From the better late then never category, the ALDF is having a National Justice for Animals Week to raise awareness about animal abuse. Adam was rescued by an 11-year-old boy who also later identified the girls who committed the crime, allowing them to be charged with felony animal cruelty.

But Mars’s character is less about being an eagle and more about the fact that he was stolen from his nest, raised in captivity, and now considers almost all of mankind – except Luna – to be his enemy.
