Still, I did manage to see a decent 65 species in 6 hours, and many of them stayed quite close to me, allowing for some nice photos. Black-and-white Warblers are usually dapper little birds, with their head-to-tail zebra stripes. The lovely Rufous-capped Warbler is something of a flagship species for this site.

Even better, just a few meters away from the food vendors, it is not too crowded, and the palm trees attract a number of birds, including two species of parrots. That is mainly the Philippines, as indicated by the species name lucionensis (Luzon is the Philippines’ biggest island). The first one is the Blue-naped Parrot.

By the time we reached the Upper Thomson Road we had a spent three hours sauntering through the park and had a list of over forty bird species. We had learnt from signs over the days we had been in Singapore that they have a problem with people dumping unwanted pets and we presume this to be the case in the reservoir.
