Gaining independence in 1990, Namibia is one of Africa’s “newer” nations, although not quite as newborn as South Sudan which has yet to celebrate its first anniversary! However, Namibia’s colonial history began earlier, in 1884 when it was annexed by the Germans.

Another southern African endemic, this species ranges widely across the dry grasslands of central South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. They usually occur in pairs or small groups but can gather in the thousands when conditions are right – for example when Etosha Pan in Namibia floods. Pink-breasted Dove.

Prime destinations for seeing African Elephant in the wild include Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Uganda. As the national bird of Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, the African Fish Eagle is usually very busy whenever it stays in these countries, giving speeches, opening shopping centers, etc. Letaba is a largish rest camp in the North central part of the park. It is near a river, attracting some birds that like to eat wet food.

They are also found in patches of Zimbabwe and Mozambique, and also north through Zambia, the Congo and Tanzania (just poking into Kenya). Across the Chobe River from Kasane, overlooking the Caprivi Strip of Namibia. Bringing food to the young. This fledgeling was trapped in the lobby, but we were able to guide it back outside.

Boehm’s Bee-eater Boehm’s Bee-eater by Adam Riley This is another of the more difficult bee-eaters, not because it is rare but rather that its range is restricted to less visited parts of the continent, notably southern Tanzania, Malawi and north-eastern Zambia. They prefer open areas, especially around wetlands.
