We have a request, and it's an issue I've written about a handful of times but never had this particular question answered by readers: How do you talk with your vet--who is against feeding your dog vegan food--about your choice to do so? I'm fortunate to have a regular (non-specialist) vet who has no problem at all with a vegan diet for dogs.

But many researchers - although adamant that animal research remains critical to finding cures and expanding medical knowledge - have come to concede that using creatures as human stand-ins is unnecessary for many procedures. Vegetarians and vegans know that you get protein from vegetables. Add cooking schools to the list of animal exploitation promoters, along with medical schools. UPDATE On Top Chef Masters Season 1, a show in which famous chefs compete against each other for charity, there was a vegan episode. That's not true.

The book, which I have not read, that saved Derrick Jensen 's life is called The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability by Lierre Keith, who was a vegan for 20 years, suffered serious medical problems, and started feeling better when she recommenced eating animals. Throughout the book, Keith mocks vegetarians and vegans.

It was because of her that her husband could get medical care when he fell ill. And 99% of the population (as in, 1%, I believe, are vegans) doesn't care. The central message of the program was not about enslaving animals, of course. That's 800,000, and that's a crime of disgraceful proportion and it I'm not minimizing it.

Now, any medication we take and surgical procedures we undergo also have a long line of breeding, enslavement, torture and killing of sentient nonhumans leading up to them, so objecting to "knockout animals" on those grounds is to stand on somewhat thin ice. That action is to opt out and go vegan.

There's no remotely vegan or even vegetarian (though I'm not even sure what the latter would look like) message. .: One message is that there's nothing wrong with eating animals, and in fact it's fantastic and thrilling and a win-win-win (people-planet-profits) when you eat animals that were "produced" by Polyface Farms. That's criminal.
