Everyday Sunshine: Great Blue Herons

10,000 Birds

We have at least 3 nesting locations here in San Francisco and that number seems to be climbing slowly. They do like to supplement their diet with small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects. They mimic our styles of dress and mock us through forced perspective. They are good watchers. They know the rhythms of gophers.

10,000 Birds

I have been searching through the internet this evening trying to find support for some behaviour that I witnessed at Fort Mason, San Francisco, this week. Warblers, orioles, kinglets and gnatcatchers have all been seen as have small mammals such as Pine Martins, bats and Red Squirrels but seldom, it seems, is the behaviour documented.
