Ovenbirds (but not the Ovenbird)

10,000 Birds

Some species opt for the traditional oven-shaped nest (hence the family name), others use tunnels in embankments, some species build advanced and complicated structures to deter brood parasites. The third spinetail is a complete forest denizen and spends its time hopping through leaf litter, searching for arthropods.

10,000 Birds

Life behind a screen for this birding guide involves delving into the extensive list of birds of Trinidad & Tobago , answering questions about the birds and possible itineraries and so on. More Encouragement to Bird at Home

10,000 Birds

Now, although I have seen this species several times before, we have a unique relationship. Discerning both species is relatively straightforward if they are seen together, if the observer concentrates enough on feeding pattern. Nothing could move around in the leaf litter without full attention from this Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl.

Into Guyana’s Interior

10,000 Birds

Although by this time we had already clocked around a hundred species after a day and a half in Guyana, we were understandably eager to explore the famous rugged interior of the country. It was only after reading up on the species I realised that it was not only me who thought this way. Unless, of course, a small aircraft is involved.
