And the absurdity is in the reality that the author and the featured person who kills sentient nonhumans for a living, think they're onto something. And though being hauled to their death on a bulldozer is terrible, any other form of slaughter at the hands of another, on that other's timeline and terms, is nevertheless slaughter.

If human beings were confined, mutilated and killed, would we call it “humane” if the cages were a few inches bigger, the knife sharper, the death faster? Would we say these people were slaughtered in a “people friendly” manner? Confinement is confinement, mutilation is mutilation, and slaughter is slaughter.

Fuller has not preached about the evils of the human practices that killed and dislocated the Passenger Pigeon; he hasn’t moaned and groaned or sentimentalized. In both countries, birds have been killed for reasons of food, commerce, and sport. It wasn’t just the mass killings in so many ways.

What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? She illustrates her books and magazine articles with her own sketches and watercolor paintings. Those that are out to kill this species for their own pleasure. I think not!
