The Barred Owl has greatly expanded its range, such that it is now common in the Pacific Northwest.

Images of wildlife coated in toxic goo haunted me; particularly the birds. southern border; and set regulations to waive environmental laws for building on public lands.

The rodents eat the bait, stagger out of the building looking for water, and are easy prey for whatever carnivore happens to be passing by, be it wildlife or someone’s pet. A poisoned rodent can kill whatever eats it, and death by poison is a very bad way to go. Need an example of “hypocrisy?”

Charles Pease shot the bird in northeastern Ohio, and gave it to his father-in-law, Jared Kirtland, one of those 19th century men who was a master multitasker–physician, horticulturist, legislator, zoologist. Kirtland, in turn, gave the skin to Dr. Spencer F. Forest Service.
