His passion and compassion for humans is immense, but he appears to have some kind of mental block with nonhuman animals. I suppose speciesism/human exceptionalism is at the heart of the matter. He just doesn't believe that other beings lives might have a purpose all their own that is entirely unrelated to humans.

There is a profound difference between what Sea Shepherd does and what the Animal Liberation Front does, but there are also similarities, and those similarities increase in number if a direct action by the ALF (or anyone else) is an open rescue and therefore a direct defense of sentient nonhumans being attacked by humans.

People whose careers involve creating, fattening, transporting and slaughtering sentient nonhumans whose parts and secretions will then be used as food are having some financial difficulties. Why the rescue plan? Along with the rest of the country. The market has spoken; this is supposed to be capitalism, not corporate socialism.

Abby, I too get very upset by stories and images of what occurs every second of every day to nonhumans and humans alike. The purpose of my life is to be the best human being I can be and to leave this planet knowing I did what I could to make it a better place. So I take care of myself.
