I did finally get Snowy Owls in Queens , even if they did cause a bit of controversy. It was awesome – especially the hedgehog and the amazing new Swarovski spotting scopes I got to play with. Northern White-breasted Hedgehog. I even chased after a Barred Owl ! Finally, I learned not to feed the birds.

Ferrets, stoats and weasels were released and quickly became destructive vermin in their own right, quickly causing the extinction of the Laughing Owl and stymieing efforts to establish game birds. What is surprising is quite how many species did end up here, and how economically unimportant they were. Greenfinches?
