In fact, crests occur in at least 20 of the 30 orders of extant birds, and in all major groups of passerines. Quite a few bird species have crests. Crests are made of feathers. Their main use is to display – either to communicate with other members of the species or to scare other species, as a raised crest makes the bird appear larger.

Flavescent Bulbul apparently roam about in pairs or small groups, according to eBird. I saw the Spectacled Bulbul at Taman Negara, Malaysia – an awful place for bird photography. The Grey-cheeked Bulbul (Taman Negara, Malaysia) essentially looks like a couple of other bulbuls. My photo supports this observation.

When you think of the best birding in the south of Asia, it is Malaysia that comes to mind, although you are likely not to even think of the country as such: you are dreaming of the (Malaysian) province of Sabah, in the north of the island of Borneo.

Still, how many birders visit this region and could be seen as the target group for this, already a second edition? Some groups, for example shorebird illustrations, tend to be on a smallish side, probably due to the number of various plumages, plus flight paintings per plate. The rest of the region remains fairly undervisited.

There were a couple of people with large cameras and then several school groups. Other areas of Singapore had not had this level of rubbish, but with the tidal movements in the Johore Strait it appeared much of it ended up her from both Singapore and Malaysia. The children appeared to be mostly interested in seeing the crocodiles!
