Military researchers have dressed live pigs in body armor and strapped them into Humvee simulators that were then blown up with explosives to study the link between roadside bomb blasts and brain injury. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The explosions have ranged in intensity, wounding some of the pigs and killing others.

So, here we go… Fighting in Iraq has been affecting starlings. But in Iraq, and more exactly, Kurdistan and Iraqi Kurdistan, they are supposed to be there (and are regularly hunted and eaten) and the fighting is not supposed to be there. Researchers are wondering if the die-off might spread to other birds or even fish.
