The UN airlifted these guys into the nature reserve so they can coalesce into a group that can survive when released back into the wild. They like to fly in pairs or groups and in the evening they come together in big groups to roost in a favorite ‘dormitory’ tree. Illegal capture for the wild animal trade is an obvious peril for such a charismatic species, but this big blue bird is also hunted both for its meat and feathers.

They were still listed as Endangered, but wildlife management measures taken in this park were clearly working. While there is only one hotel relying entirely on birders [his “Limneo”], in the peak season [late April – early May] ten more hotels had birding groups. Someone should tell the police who is actually paying them.
