Fur and Fangs rather than Feathers and Beaks

I viewed them at dusk, through a telescope, from a ridge overlooking the area they were hunting. This northern fox really does look red, unlike the pale, sandy-coloured animals I saw in Georgia in 2019 ( below ). I’ve yet to see an English pine marten, but I once watched one hunting red squirrels in the Bialowieza Forest in Poland.

Georgian Raptor Protector Up for “Green Oscar”

This year’s awards will be handed out on April 27th, and one of the finalists has devoted himself to saving migrating birds of pray from illegal hunting. Alexander Rukhaia focuses his efforts on the “ Batumi Bottleneck ,” an Important Bird Area along the coast of the Black Sea in the Ajara region of Georgia.

The Nonessential Whooping Crane

Over the winter, the universe lost four whooping cranes to what appears to be recreational shooting: three gunned down together in Georgia on December 30, 2010, and another in Alabama on January 28, 2011. More states will doubtless join the queue of those proposing hunts. It gives one to wonder why this designation was made.

Birdwatcher or Bird Photographer?

I have a strong hunting instinct, and digiscoping gave me the satisfaction of bagging my quarry. Hoopoe and barbed wire, photographed in Georgia with an Olympus EM-1 and 75-300mm lens DT birdwatching in Andalucia. It was fun to come home from a day in the field to load my photographs on to my lap top, and later my iPad.
