After a pleasant morning with ducks, crisp snow and sunshine, we followed the wildlife trail on our way out. If there were such a thing as a Periodic Table of Ducks we went from hydrogen to uranium: every duck imaginable was there. That was undoubtedly the sighting of the day – this striking red bird in a white and dark green landscape.

Twitching a Gray Kingbird in New York

After five hours, a stop for McDonald’s and gas, lots of crappy incidental checklists in eBird, a call from Brooklyn birders saying they didn’t have the bird, and a traffic stop that somehow didn’t result in a speeding ticket, we made it to Conesus Inlet State Wildlife Management Area where we were greeted by a Yellow Warbler.

Transit in Dubai

It is mainly scrub and woodland in a dry area with a mosque and fast food restaurant in the central area. Any remaining time can be productively spent at either or both of the hides at Ra’s al-Khor wildlife Sanctuary. The entrance is on Al Kawaneej Road and can be seen at Google Earth ref; 25 13 48.09N 55 27 3E.
