The internet evolved, and this site was created with a bigger, better vision, but the goal remained the same… help animals find homes through promoting rescue groups. Rescue Spotlight is going to be an ongoing feature here where we hope to highlight rescue groups to help them get more exposure online.

The team is just coming off its rescue efforts in Memphis, where floods of historic proportions affected uncounted numbers of domestic and wild animals. American Humane Association has been protecting children and animals since 1877. The Red Star team consists of 13 staff and volunteers who will begin work tomorrow.

Contribute to rescue efforts. WSPA (World Society for Protection of Animals). But when safe, able workers and members of rescue organizations are needed to work hands-on in countries in need. Local shelters and rescue organizations take in animals displaced from earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, house fires, and other tragedies.

Rescuers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW – www.ifaw.org ) have mobilized to Japan to conduct an assessment and assist with animal rescue efforts following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. The official death toll reached 9,811 with an additional 17,541 people still missing.

Luckily Grace happened upon the scene, and like an avenging angel, broke up the circle, rescued the stunned bird, and called her mother. A short time later Russell rolled away, safe – if not sound – in the family’s station wagon. Unfortunately, his wing healed in a crooked arc, grounding him for life.

I do occasional rescues, though, because everyone still has my number. I come from a family where the worse the situation, the faster and more furiously the wisecracks fly, so I suppose I’m hardwired to look for humor. I didn’t know the set up required for a black bear, or how high a Florida panther can actually jump.
