The team is just coming off its rescue efforts in Memphis, where floods of historic proportions affected uncounted numbers of domestic and wild animals. American Humane Association has been protecting children and animals since 1877. The Red Star team consists of 13 staff and volunteers who will begin work tomorrow.

Rescuers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW – www.ifaw.org ) have mobilized to Japan to conduct an assessment and assist with animal rescue efforts following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. The official death toll reached 9,811 with an additional 17,541 people still missing.

A short time later Russell rolled away, safe – if not sound – in the family’s station wagon. Unfortunately, his wing healed in a crooked arc, grounding him for life.
