Shark Bay and Monkey Mia

The site is famous for a place called Monkey Mia, where dolphins have learnt to come up to the beach a few times a day to get snacks. I have wanted to see a representative of this family for twenty years so it was quite a day as far as lifers went. That’s fine, and I like dolphins, but I usually prefer them away from a circus.

In other words, the group of mammals that includes all the monkeys, which is rather large (and not accurately defined because I’ve not said what a “monkey” is … am I including lemurs?)

Bird Watching Rio Canande Reserve

All of the forest in these areas has been cleared many years ago to give way to food production and housing for small towns that continually expand as the local families grow and require more resources for food, housing and employment. We found this little Red-cheeked Woodpecker family surviving on a dead tree near the road to Canande.
