Heidelberg Zoo to the south-west of Neuenheimer Feld, all over the place but most often at the seals enclosure and the adjacent kiosk. The zoo has a small colony of genuinely wild Grey Herons (watch them compete with the seals for the fish!), Common Redstart and Fieldfare. Yes, the Egyptian Geese there are countable.

Their habitat is fast-running, rocky streams and rivers where they feed on aquatic invertebrates and insects, larvae, mollusks and small fish. Their aquatic adaptations include dense plumage and a membrane that seals the bird’s nostrils during dives like the one above. They are great birds and fun to watch and photograph.
