Then, in one of my freshmen science classes, there was a discussion about extinct species, which then lead to the topic of threatened, or endangered species, and what we could do to help out. Now that I am here in Mexico, I finally found them! Much like every beautiful sandy beach, the human encroachment is substantial.

Listen for their distinctive human-like calls and watch for them in morning and late afternoon flight in such sites as the Tarcoles area, around Palo Verde National Park, and around Santa Rosa National Park. Don’t be surprised if you don’t find this species in your field guide. Yellow-naped Parrot (Amazona auropalliata).

Except for the falconer’s jesses and bell, they were to be allowed freedom to pursue life in the wild, life with minimal human contact. The concern possessed him.

The recovery took long enough that in that time young Sirocco imprinted on humans instead of his own kind, and has therefore rendered the young parrot somewhat useless for the breeding project. And he sometimes travels around New Zealand giving people the chance to encounter one of their most endangered species in a semi-natural habitat.
