There is a rational, and for some people a spiritual, case for being a vegetarian: Killing animals is wrong. Tags: Activism Books Ethics Gray Matters Language. And it gently tells the story of why we shouldn't eat factory farmed animals. And I'd prefer a different message.

Piety is the remedy for religious guilt, and to this emotion we are all witting or unwitting heirs. And I suspect that people become vegetarians for precisely that reason: that by doing so they overcome the residue of guilt that attaches to every form of hubris, and in particular to the hubris of human freedom.

There's a vague sense that perhaps he cares about the dogs or thinks that what he does to them might present an ethical dilemma, but the overwhelming feeling is that it's all worth it. The tiresome Hitler was a well-known vegetarian comment is included in this segment, but I found it irksome long before that.
