And, I started daydreaming about encountering something a little different, maybe a Horned Frog, Ceratophrys cornuta, a large, squat green and brown frog of South America, with a wide mouth large enough to eat other frogs as well as reptiles. There’s the Goliath frog from South Africa—up to one foot in length and over 6 pounds in weight.

The Desolation Islands are more than 2,000 miles from the nearest permanent human habitation (besides research stations) and can only be reached by a long ship journey. It lives on the Kerguelen Island chain, otherwise known as the Desolation Islands, and also on the nearby (relatively) Crozet Islands.

I guess most scientists would love to see their original research become the basis for a vast field of further studies. She also laid eggs in Melba Finch nests. According to a local African superstition that I just made up, it is not harmful to eat toxically colored birds if you eat them in the dark. Red-billed Firefinch.
