The Amusing Case of the Gulf Breeze Zoo Canada Geese

10,000 Birds

Next door to my hometown, the Gulf Breeze Zoo occupies 50 acres near the Santa Rosa Sound. Birding Hongbenghe, Yunnan (Part 1)

10,000 Birds

This is the home of the Rusty-naped Pitta , admittedly one of the less glamorous of the family, particularly the subspecies found in Yunnan, but still a nice sight and still a pitta. Come@Me: If Birds are Dinosaurs I’m a Monkey’s Uncle

10,000 Birds

Wisdom is not charging people extra to see your reconstituted Jurassic Park style dinosaur zoo when all you’ve got is a barn full of chickens. In other words, you can’t say something like, “humans, gorillas, chimps, and bonobos are all in the same family and equally related to each other.” Think about it. But here’s the thing.

Colorful + Devious = Toucans of Costa Rica

Like crows and jays, they are social, vocal, intelligent, and omnivorous (including eating eggs and nestlings). Toucans were something else entirely and we couldn’t even see them at the local zoo. This species also tends to forage in pairs or small family groups. Yes, this bird acts like a jay.
