Some 320 species have been recorded here, and in springtime it is possible to observe more than 150 bird species in a week. Due to heavy rains many clutches of Great Crested Grebes had failed, but we observed both nests with eggs (and left the area immediately) and adults with chicks, some of them piggy-backing their mothers.

Brown Pelican – This is a bird that will just take some luck while I am staring at the ocean. Either way, the odds of actually getting a Brown Pelican in Queens are pretty low. Sedge Wren – There are records of this species in Queens, generally along the coast in fall. Below are my predictions exactly as I made them.

In Broome it is very easy to get 100 species on January 1st, which looks great for a while, but then you realise that before long other Beat Writers have jumped on aeroplanes and wandered further from home than we have. Pied Oystercatcher family together for the last time in 2014.
