Northern Arapahoes Given Right to Kill Eagles for Religious Purposes

From the Seattle PI. A federal government decision to allow a Wyoming tribe to kill two bald eagles for a religious ceremony is a victory for American Indian sovereignty as well as for long-suppressed religious freedoms, the tribe says.

Week 25: A few of my South Africa Favorites

I am out on an off shore boat trip, from Seattle, north thru the San Juan Islands, and if the weather permits, up into the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. This is one of a pair of Verraux’s Eagle-owls. I was fortunate enough to photograph lots of birds of prey, from large eagles down to small little kites.

Nisqually Delta Wildlife Refuge

This wonderful piece of birding real estate can be found 8 miles east of Olympia, and an hour’s drive south of Seattle Washington, right along the I-5 corridor. Unfortunately, while I was still living in the Seattle area, I had discovered the Nisqually Refuge to late, just weeks prior to setting sail south.

Can the Falcons Win the Super Bowl?

In Super Bowl XLVIII, the mighty Seattle Seahawks took a title, though they lost the following year to the aforementioned Patriots. But don’t be surprised to see the Falcons falter just as the Cardinals did in 2009 and the Seahawks did in 2006 and the Eagles in 2005. or join others in rooting for the Patriots to fail.

Week four: We wrap up our stay in the US.

The end of this rather long road trip finds us here in Puyallup, Washington which is just south of Seattle. Northern Harriers, Peregrine Falcons, American Kestrels, and a fair number of Bald Eagles all can be found on the refuge year round. I got to see several Brown Creepers in the area. These were my first Fox Sparrows of the year.
