Regardless of what may have been my motivation, all eagles are exceptionally amazing birds that will scarcely ever fail to impress lucky birders. So here they are, the German eagles… Osprey. So here they are, the German eagles… Osprey. White-tailed Eagle. Go Eagles!! Short-toed Snake Eagle.

He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly.

Three days, three hawk-eagles. During a memorable guiding trip in June, we hit the jackpot with all three species of hawk-eagles in just a few days. The Ornate Hawk-Eagle was noticed at the last minute on our drive towards San Jose through the dense rainforests of Braulio Carrillo National Park. An Ornate from another day.

Twenty-five-year-old Luna Burke is risking everything to smuggle a homicidal Bald Eagle out of her husband’s private zoo in Florida, reunite the bird with its mate, and get them both to an eagle sanctuary in Canada. Have you had rehab experiences with eagles? I’ve only handled a couple of eagles, and they were awesome birds!

Oh yeah, and the serious mega of the day was a dang adult Gray-hooded Gull seen at the shorebird hotspot of Punta Morales! A very rare vagrant to Costa Rica from the Humboldt Current, this beautiful gull has been seen in the Osa, on Cocos Island and at Punta Morales on other occasions, including GBD 2019.

Benjamin Franklin disapproved of the selection of the Bald Eagle as our national bird, calling it “a Bird of bad moral Character.” The ballroom dance the “turkey trot” was named for the short, jerky steps that turkeys take. Turkeys can see in color but have poor night vision.
