Somehow, Steller’s Sea Eagle manages to look both fierce and slightly cartoonish. Back to the eagle. Even the review has some interesting information – for example, a major predator of eagle nests is the Brown Bear. They also estimate between 2115 and 2645 individuals traveled to see the eagle.

The only mammals of the day were feral Nutrias (Coypus), aquatic rodents originally from southern South America released from the bankrupt fur-farms and well established here. Geese from the inside of the submerged, horseshoe shaped island take flight, flushed by one young White-tailed Eagle. In this light, all beaks are dark!

The crest of the Long-Crested Eagle looks a bit exaggerated to me – like some retro-punk wearing a mohawk decades after 1977. One being that the name is based on the bird’s soft feathers with a texture similar to a mouse’s fur. I have no clue what its name is. I was vaguely curious about the family name mousebird.

It’s not fecal material, but parts that are not digestible like fur, bones and the exoskeletons of insects. Many are familiar with dissecting owl pellets, but several birds will caste a pellet including hawks, eagles, gulls, herons and heck, I once witnessed a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher hack up a small one.
