Hearts racing and tears of emotion welling up in our eyes! I got out, stretched and looked an Eastern Screech-Owl straight into its gorgeous eyes. I think I’m in love with an owl. The emotional high of the owl was never going to give this lake a fair chance but even so I would say this spot was the least attractive of the day.

I was high and happy, not from “420” drugs but from the altitude and the anticipation of seeing woodpeckers and owls I had never seen before. We admired the Bison in the frozen fields and saw a juvenile Golden Eagle which was both beautiful and a lifer for my hosts. I am not a fan of American restaurants.

Ghana – Rainforest Birding on the Brink by Adam Riley

Nineteen days later we had racked up an amazing list of 436 species, including some of Africa’s least known birds such as Congo Serpent Eagle , Yellow-footed Honeyguide , Tessmann’s Flycatcher , Yellow-bearded Greenbul , Black-collared Lovebird and much besides. The rare Rufous Fishing Owl was one of the many species seen by the group here.
