Today is the United Nations World Wildlife Day, a time to celebrate and raise awareness of the living world around us. Raising and lowering its head, like stretching. Actually, when I started to bird, my second ever duck, after the Mallard, was a Ruddy Shelduck! The closer one raises her head, than lies back.

Normally wildlife rehabilitators do not go around wearing birds on purpose. Swifts and swallows are notoriously hard to raise and/or rehabilitate, so rehabbers who don’t specialize in them tend to lose their heads when they’re successful. said Leslie, who successfully raised five of them last summer. Now it’s birds AS bling.

It was decreed a national symbol of Honduras on 28 June 1993 by the National Congress of Honduras as a way to raise awareness of the varied avifauna of Honduras. Fish & Wildlife comes in response to a lawsuit brought by the Center for Biological Diversity. Their plumage is simply amazing and the colors are astounding.

There were plenty of birds on the water to keep me entertained, with close to 60 Greylag geese, 50 Canada Geese, 80 Wigeon, 250 Coots, plus a good assortment of Tufted Ducks, Gadwall, Shoveler and Mallard. One count I undertake every year is the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust’s Big Farmland Bird Count.
