The number of people who hunt waterfowl in the US has declined since the mid 1990s. This has resulted in a reduction of the number of duck stamps sold. Sales of duck stamps have funded the preservation of wetlands and other wildlife habitat, which in turn has supported an increase in waterfowl populations.

We have a simple solution to raise more money for the National Wildlife Refuge System. Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp (Duck Stamp) sales were at their peak in the 1970′s with 2.1 This means that only 11% of hunters buy the Duck Stamp raising approximately $25 million a year. A lot more money! million hunters.

It preserves habitat, protects wildlife. Fishing accounted for 21 percent and hunting 7 percent. Coinciding with these figures is something we have suspected for a long time, the majority of Recreational Visitor Days are attributable to non-consumptive activities, followed by fishing activities and hunting activities.

As a birder, this 72 minute documentary film about the Duck Stamp Contest didn’t accomplish what I was hoping it might – get people excited about the Duck Stamp, or at least wildlife conservation. That being said, in preparation of opening day judging of the Duck Stamp Contest, the judges were informed of the contest rules.
