Best Bird of the Weekend (Third of April 2016)

10,000 Birds

I was privileged to help my mother-in-law see her first Common Loon in its summer finery, but for me, the highlight amidst the myriad ducks and grebes was a new regiment of Ruddy Ducks in the waterfowl mix at Conesus Lake. If you’ve blogged about your weekend experience, you should include a link in your comment.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of April 2016)

10,000 Birds

I don’t know which legislative branch to appeal to, but there ought to be a law that mandates life birds on a birder’s birthday. I spent several hours of an otherwise excellent weekend dipping multiple times on a rare ABA Tufted Duck. Perhaps we should require lifers on anyone’s birthday. Sure beats cake!

Best Bird of the Weekend (Great Backyard Bird Count 2012)

10,000 Birds

This weekend was dedicated to enjoying the company of my visiting mother, brother, sister-in-law, and niece. Britain’s Birds: An Identification Guide to the Birds of Britain and Ireland–A Book Review

10,000 Birds

The authors themselves–Rob Hume, Robert Still, Andy Swash, Hugh Harrop, and David Tipling–collectively have 100s of years of birding and photographic experience. I don’t really understand why this 15-page section is included in a book already bursting at the seams.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Third of February 2017)

10,000 Birds

I counted birds not at my own feeders but at those of my mother-in-law, where my best sighting was a single Northern Raven that croaked back and forth for hours in the unexpectedly warm winter sun. Neither was it an American Bittern , a Harlequin Duck , nor any of the three scoters despite him seeing all of those as well.
