Four months ago, I would have taken to the crowded pathway at Lafayette Heritage Trail Park like a horse to pasture, reveling in the outdoor exercise and rare time away from my new baby. The trails may have been buzzing with joggers, dog-walkers, and bikers, but the water was empty. Crossing into Lake Lafayette.

Passing another horse cart loaded with plastic barrels of drinkable water… Well trotted dirt road winds through the open savanna with low thorny acacias and dry, flattened grass in the district of Kutch, Gujarat (India). The whole village smells of fish – its raison d’etre. One goat is feeding on fish hanging to dry along the sticks.
