Going back to that assumption that birds don’t have a sense of smell, it can be traced to John James Audubon (of course), who performed several experiments with Turkey Vultures and concluded that the vultures used sight, not scent, to find food. The Juncos reacted to alien scents, even temporarily reducing the time spent on the nest.

I think that people who are pro-animal research would come away with something to ponder, definitely the sense that this is not a pretty or sanitized practice. Actually, I didn't quit neuroscience as a result of the experiences described, but I did quit working with animals. Bring on the PETA hotties!

Enrolled pets receive lifetime coverage for diagnostic tests, surgeries, and medications if they get sick or are injured, with no incident, annual or lifetime limit. Standing water is a definite danger zone, which includes water dishes left out at dog parks. I love dog parks.

While I would not want to encourage anyone to put birds in cages, it is interesting to read about the experience of somebody breeding Black-headed Sibias in captivity. If you do not know what USP means, you are definitely not a marketing person yourself. Marketing people would probably also say that it shares the same USP, cuteness.
