Binocular snobbery

Many years ago I interviewed Barbara Young, then the newly recruited chief executive of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), for an article for The Daily Telegraph. It was a binocular that was popular with deer stalkers, as it performed so well at dawn and dusk; it was designed for stalking rather than birdwatching.

The hunters currently pushing copper bullets have seen the x-rays proving that lead bullets splinter when they enter an animal, and they know that the meat hunters feed their families is filled with lead fragments (x-ray, left, of white-tailed deer.) On November 13, “The Sportsmen’s Heritage Act” will come in front of the Senate.
