Raptors feed their young meat. Pet stores sell mealworms in small plastic containers, which will do the the trick until the rehabber takes over; just make sure they are tiny little mini-mealworms, and not the big mean ones that can actually bite you and which would make short work of a nestling songbird. Care does not include milk.

They would realize that wild owls fly silently through the night and grab unwary rodents, not unsuspecting packages of processed cow meat. A pet cat raising orphaned ducklings! And they would realize that any species whose young tried to nurse with a pointed beak would be a short-lived species.

It's just another excuse people have concocted because they like the taste of cow/pig/chicken/fish flesh. Many people support this, particularly affluent types, who have become dog and cat people and now own them as "pets." But my initial reaction is that this is like Americans giving up "red meat." What do you think?

To the Editor: Re “ PETA’s Latest Tactic: $1 Million for Fake Meat ” (news article, April 21): The commercial development of meat from animal tissue won’t result in “fake meat” any more than cloning sheep results in fake sheep. A more accurate name for the end result would therefore be “clean meat.”

I replaced cow's milk with soy milk. Plant-based diets significantly reduce one risk of these chronic degenerative diseases.
