Both animal rights groups and animal welfare groups use "compassion" frequently. Compassion" has been so diluted that most people don't bat an eyelash at the idea of " compassionate carnivores." Or vegan pumpkin pie. Tags: Activism Ethics Language. Then again, so do people who kill animals for a living. I don't think so.

Image via Wikipedia I found The Goode Family disappointing on the vegan side. One complaint many of us have with "liberals" and "progressives" is that they tend to leave veganism and animal rights out of their sphere of concern. Yeah, lots of mockery, but I didn't laugh. Maybe it's me. Are Baby Boomers killing Facebook and Twitter?

And is our Supreme Court, which as far as I know has shown no particular compassion for sentient nonhumans, equipped to decide what Free Speech is when they've been telling themselves the same stories our culture has been telling for hundreds of years regarding our relationship to sentient nonhumans? There is a general consensus that vegetarianism and veganism are different philosophically. And that means for the animal rights movement: Social entities like compassion, empathy and suffering are very important factors to motivate humans to change their behaviour. How about this? And the reverse is true: If parents are unaware, it should be no surprise that whatever compassion or sense of justice a child has is not nurtured. The "problem with this view" that arises is that it is entirely logical to broaden one's circle of compassion beyond "pets" and to other sentient nonhumans, and Scott doesn't like that logic because it conflicts with his profit motive and his palate.
