The nation of Colombia has been the victim of some bad press over the last few decades, not all of this is entirely unjustified. The government of Colombia was involved in a long-simmering and occasionally boiling war with guerilla groups in the rural parts of the country. Proud of their nation of music and color and art.

How else can I describe two days at Cerro Montezuma in Colombia. Cerro Montezuma or Montezuma Peak lies within Tatama National Park in Colombia’s Western Cordillera. My group came to Montezuma to spy tasty Chocó endemic tanagers, hummingbirds, and anything else we could lay eyes on. completed the experience.

I was just curious what the US birders dream about, so I posted a question in the ABA’s FB group: a) what are the most popular foreign destinations and b) where would you go with unlimited funds? 15%: Colombia, New Guinea (irrespective of the part/country). Colombia was praised for its “amazing people, topography and biodiversity”.

As the least accessible, Bolivia unjustly attracts less attention in this group. The first information necessary to start planning your travels is how many birds can be seen in each country.

Although we don’t really have a chance to top the numbers of birds identified in mega birdy places like Peru, Colombia, or even Mexico, we still do our best to make it into the top ten and at least see if we can beat the record from the previous year. Costa Rica is one of those places.
