Birding Wuyuan, China

In retrospect, this weekend at Wuyuan was not exactly my finest hour as a bird photographer – hopefully, I could do better now, and perhaps one day I will, should normal traveling ever be possible again in China. Wuyuan is in Jiangxi province. I’d rather see yellow birds than yellow plants.

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Tiger Afternoon

She has grown up in the reserve and has no experience of the environment of which tourists would not be a permanent, however boring part of. During 1990s, the South China Tiger became extinct in the wild (some still survive in zoos) and the number of extinct races reached four. Telia, copyright © Nitin Bhardwaj.

Some were taken of birds and mammals in zoos or aviaries, others were taken in the wild, often in remote places. Yangtze River Dolphin in captivity, 1988, Wuhan, China, p. I ache that I will never see what the photographer has seen, but hope that maybe if I try hard enough I will see some kind of echo of this experience in the image.

Come@Me: Don’t Mourn for Extinct Birds

Pink Pigeons were featured on episode four of the second season of The Zoo , the excellent television series about The Bronx Zoo,* and their story was disturbing. Meanwhile, on The Zoo, the keepers have been creating an environment for Thelma and Louise so they can nurture the hoped-for egg from The Stud and Serendipity.

The Golden Pheasant

But the looks of the adult male Golden Pheasant make it an attractive bird for animal parks, zoos, and similar places – for example, it has its own webpage at Seaworld and at a place called Marineland on the Cote D’Azur. I guess in China, there is always money for research related to Giant Pandas.

Birding Kangding, Sichuan

In Kangding, there is a rather opulent bird hide – two stories, solid construction, spacious, lots of glass, a separate paved parking lot, though mysteriously (and as far as I can tell from my experience of living in China for almost 20 years, not indicative of fundamentally different physical needs of Chinese people) missing a bathroom.
