Cattle Raised Species Suffering

Note to other species: better do not rely on mature primary forests, as this may lead to extinction. This says more about my inability to differentiate between warbler species than about the rarity of the bird – but the bird was kindly singing. But what do I know about the taste preferences of Cattle Egrets.

Its mood is not helped by the ambiguous review on eBird: “Although not actually pale, this brownish songbird is one of the plainer thrushes in its range” The Latin species name of the Dusky Thrush is eunomos (I guess that is Greek, but whatever) – meaning well-ordered.

Mating pairs are faithful for life and share the tasks of raising the young. These people abstain from eggs and dairy products the production of which involves suffering for the animals. To avoid this complication, Martin should have stipulated that no suffering is involved in the production of animal legs. Suppose someone enjoys drinking the blood of cattle and hogs. Suffering is more than pain.

The sharp strings are a menace to passing birds – especially kites and other raptors – who cannot see them and sometimes suffer grievous, if not fatal, wounds. Unwilling to leave the suffering birds to die, they began bringing them home, asking veterinarians to make house calls, and keeping the recuperating birds on their roof.

If beef cattle who could not feel pain were developed, then it would be permissible to eat them. KBJ: Martin seems to think that people who abstain from meat on the ground that meat-eating causes pain would not eat “beef cattle” even if they could not feel pain. What should our moral attitude be toward eating members of these species?
