They’ve Got an Awful Lot of Birds in Brazil.

’ They are challenging to find, frustrating to photograph, and the antbird experience often includes heat and humidity, mud and bugs. I was practically right next to the two in this photo (and, note the Rufescent Tiger-heron photobomb). It was one of those magic experiences when you are so absorbed you forget you have a camera.

And unlike the protection of cormorants, which was perceived as a problem, protection of pelicans was welcomed by the local communities. Nikos managed to show us the incubating Cattle Egrets, of which only 2 or 3 pairs breed in this enormous heronry, counting up to 9000 pairs back in 2014. Then, there was a herd of buffaloes.
